N-5490 was de-rigged and
recovered from Harvey Field on 3rd Septemeber 2011 - exactly 72 years after
the outbreak of war in Europe.
In the days before the de-rigging,
hours were spent removing rusty split pins, releasing control cables, pitot-static
pipes,
fuel cock linkages, the
fuel line from the tank and numerous other preparations made for the de-rigging
operation.
Home at last. Now the restoration of this old warhorse can begin.
